Synopsis:
The course provides exercises in designing a vertical complex building (high rise). The project comprises of a building of up to a maximum of 20 storeys high. Students are required to integrate some knowledge of architectural theory/approach/investigation in designing the buildings with critical awareness of the services, structural systems, the required construction materials and sustainable green components, etc. The students are required to fulfil convincingly on building by-laws.
Introduction:
High Rise development, which includes land subdivision, systematic development, large-scale complexes, and rehabilitation, is a vital and intricate part of our society and economy. It encompasses a broad network of discipline including politician, local authorities, planners, surveyors, architects, landscape architect, engineers, bankers, lawyers, marketing people as well as developers and contractors.
The concept and execution of any kind of multi storey project is a long and laborious exercise. This proposed project will deal with a few aspect of this process, that of the architectural planning and design of the physical space.
Specifically, the aim of this exercise is to provide the student a comprehensive insight of a real life situation of architectural design approach for commercial, retail & hospitality based development. The approach recommended is strongly weighted towards design ideas, technical and practical. The approach is that which we feel will enable the student/designer to evolve better and more meaningful living environments.
Building standards and criteria are by no means static. They are in constant state of evolution, and over the years, gradually evolved to reflect the changing economic and social values of our society. This exercise is not an attempt to provide definitive formula for a highly complex process. Each situation, even though it may appear similar, must be reviewed and analyzed on its known merits
