New Gallery
« on: March 14, 2004, 10:50:09 AM »

i've added a new showcase gallery for all to use. it's open to everyone, and you can post whatever artwork, design, drawing, sketches or whatever that's graphical in nature. the reason to have this is that, in the future, i'm looking to convert tanggam into a more personalized collection of alumnis, database and individual certified online portfolio.

this means, in the future, u can upload your stuffs on tanggam's server, and leave it there, having a very low maintenance personal certified portfolio, where u can submit the url to any office incase you're applying for jobs or stuff like that. but that's in the future.

for the time being, just showcase whatever you want. preferably, your own works. if it's not yours, please indicate it's original author/artist/owner. we dont want to breach any kind of intellectual rights now, do we?

this week, i'll be trying to introduce a new system for the showcase gallery section. things might get a little haywire in the early bit, but just bite your panties and wait, okay?

in the new feature, i will try to integrate a preview system, thumbnails, a more organize feature very similar to photobucket. not sure how well i could integrate them into tanggam's database, but i will sure try.

i've enabled the photo album feature in tanggam.com. currently it is currently still in the testing phase, so everyone is welcomed to join and test this new feature. u dont have to reregister. all user database has been automatically transfered to the tanggam album.

logon here http://www.tanggam.com/album/

so why do we have this feature, u ask?

a lot of us love to share their pics, arts, products, designs, drawings and such. sometimes i see that in order to share 5 pictures, u had to post+upload 5 times. with this feature, it will simplify the process, and it has lotsof other features like photo resizing, simple editing and stuff like that.

feel free to explore these features. the testing phase will take until after raya.

but please, dont use this album as ur dumping ground for all ur images or for external use. this is for internal use only. currently each person has a 2mb quota, we're gonna test this feature out slowly, so that it wont affect tanggam's primary database.

everything seems to be working fine now. do try and upload stuffs on it. tonight i'll skin it properly and try to integrate the interface with tanggam, so that it'll be more familiar. and oh, this new album feature will replace the showcase gallery section of tanggam. this will be more focused on a "gallery approach" (multiple uploads, showcase, individual comments to each image, slideshow, basica photo editing/manipulation etc).

i'm still trying to figure out the best way to showcase ur works in a topic managed by the user themselves.

it's orait johnson, i'm trying to setup the simplest layout for everything. currently it's not 100% intuitive enough. so just go slow. and another thing, i'll be doing a lot of code changing this week. so if thing's arent where it used to be... just... hang on :D.

I usually upload my images in imageshack. I'll try your album soon. However, just for the recorsd, 2 mb is very small. How big is tanggam's hardisk?

2GBs. currently i'm testing out features, trying to make it stable. the forum and the gallery is of two different web applications, and they dont usually make them to be compatible with each other. after it's stable enough, i'll upgrade the quota up to 15mb each.

the forum is using invisionboard ver 1.2, while the gallery is using coppermine ver 1.3. i've managed to combine both databases, which i was surprised didnt give me any problems, but i'm expecting some other problems during these few weeks. so this means that u dont have to reregister just to use the gallery.

attention all: be aware that although it might house the same features as imageshack, i cant allow hotlinking, external links or outsourcing the images for use on other websites, for example:

"upload in tanggam, but u hotlinked it to another forum coz u cant upload images on that forum"

"using the tanggam gallery as an image storage to use on other websites"

"to tap images for ur own personal website so that it wont take too much bandwith out of ur own site"

those are examples of things not to do with this gallery haha. easy enough, it is because bandwith is precious. if u want to pay for the bandwith, then be my guest lah :D. simply put, u can use the gallery for whatever use u prefer, just dont hotlink it to some other place. the images are still urs, as will the copyright too.

But will you know if people are abusing it?  I once tried to steal some bandwidth to host an image on a forum, :P but they managed to detect that and instead, they showed an image telling me that I was stealing their bandwidth.  :D

So from then on, I've stopped stealing bandwidth.

Now I can host my images from my paid email service, and also from http://www.yesalbum.com/index.php for free.  It's pretty user-friendly too.  B)

ohh... can. dont worry. tanggam that everybody sees is different from what the admins see. the administrative settings are quite thorough, so basically that would assist us on determining such cases. at the same time, tanggam's server keeps a log on every byte that is being accessed to and fro, what is being accessed, when and by whom.

it's just a matter of how often we (the admins) would check them heheh. currently, only bohrtaag and i have administrative access to the servers.

ah no matter. we're enabling hotlinking protection. so dont worry about a thing, it's all automated. maybe in the future, when we can get people to contribute, we can allow image hotlinking/storage in tanggam.
